Brazil is considered the second country in the world in number of cesarean sections. Such a procedure is strongly opposed by humanized childbirth activists who accuse obstetricians of being responsible for this “epidemic of cesarean sections” in the country, generating strong conflicts with them. The study aims to analyze the arguments of the medical entity Conselho Regional de Medicina do Rio de Janeiro (CREMERJ) against the humanized childbirth activists with regard to the accusation directed at doctors for the indications of unnecessary cesarean sections with serious damage to the health of the mother-child binomial. The methodology was based on participant observation of events at CREMERJ in 2019 and analysis of documents and media material. It was observed that scientific evidence and political ideology are used by both poles in a game of knowledge and power disputes.
