SILVA, Katia Marina. The national identity in second-generation immigrants in Switzerland: a football incident for reflection. Rev. urug. Antropología y Etnografía [online]. 2022, vol.7, n.1, pp.180-197.  Epub 01-Jun-2022. ISSN 2393-7068.  https://doi.org/10.29112/ruae.v7i1.1348.

The emigration and immigration processes include instances of formal integration and determine the construction of national, individual and collective identities. This reflection stems from a football incident that occurred in a match between Switzerland and Serbia during the 2018 World Cup: a gesture of recognition by two Swiss players towards their country of origin - Kosovo - led to questioning their legitimacy as Swiss nationals. The event reveals ambiguities in the integration process of the secondos or second-generation immigrants. Analyzing the construction of its binational identity constitutes the objective of the study, through a descriptive review of concepts such as nationality, citizenship, identity and integration. Dynamics of inclusion and exclusion were identified, as a result of current social representations in the cultural context of origin and in that of host. The conclusions recall the plural nature of identity and warn about the consequences of these exclusion dynamics.
