BAUZA, Roberto et al. Fecal Apparent Digestibility of Sorghum’s Batchs with Different Tannin Contents and Subjected to Various Forms of Processing Technologies for Rearing Pigs. Agrociencia Uruguay [online]. 2016, vol.20, n.1, pp.79-89. ISSN 1510-0839.
In order to determine the contribution in digestible nutrients for pigs of two types of sorghum processed by different methods, an experiment of apparent fecal digestibility (DFA) was performed with rearing pigs. Six diets were studied: T1: grounded corn (MM); T2: high tannin sorghum (SAT) grounded (SATM); T3: SAT extruded (SATE); T4: wet grain silo SAT (SSAT); T5: low tannin sorghum (SBT) grounded (SBTM); T6: wet grain silo SBT (SSBT). Eighteen pigs were used, three per treatment, with an average weight of 36.5 kg, housed in individual cages of digestibility. The experimental period comprised seven days of habituation and five days of collection. Two equal daily doses, for an amount of dry matter equivalent to 6 % of metabolic body weight were supplied. Total collection of feces was done. The DFA of dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP) and gross energy (GE) was determined. Digestible Protein and Digestible Energy were estimated on a dry basis. The results of DFA of MS, MO, PC and EB, in percentage, were respectively MM: 90.27, 90.18, 81.65, 89.74; SATM: 89.45, 89.29, 73.31, 88.96; SATE: 90.78, 90.64, 81.94, 91.24; SSAT: 83.58, 83.41, 49.11, 83.22; SBTM: 91.23; 91.09; 72.63; 90.83; SSBT: 93.16, 93.05, 83.55, 92.78. It was concluded that the nutritional value of SBTM, the silage SSBT, and SATE extruded is equivalent to corn´s.
