The objective of this article is to present a theoretical discussion about the relation between information literacy and the new literacies that have taken center stage in the 21st century. Regarding this relation, there are divergent positions in the specialized literature, identifying two major proposals: firstly, the set of literacies as independent elements that are related to each other but not from a subordinated relation and, secondly, the proposal that is defended in this article that advocates information literacy as a macro process that includes the rest of the literacies linked to information. In this way, based on a literature review, it is attempted to present information literacy as an area of knowledge, deepen the link between information literacy and other literacies to, finally, define information competencies within the framework of these processes. . Finally, a set of final considerations are shared in relation to how to understand or approach the information literacy process today.
