Facing a scenario of difficulties, insecurities, and complexities, the entrepreneurial philosophy has been assuming a prominent role. The benefits arising from entrepreneurial behavior, whether innate or learned and perfected, positively impact the social and economic development of the population. According to this perspective, we aimed to characterize the archivist as an entrepreneur or intrapreneur. By means of a qualitative bibliographic research of descriptive nature, we presented factors that determine entrepreneurship, the characteristics of an entrepreneur as well as the competencies and abilities related to the archivist according to specialized literature. The comparison of these characteristics makes evident that the archivist should be considered and valued as an entrepreneur since he/she performs individual or corporate projects in an original, proactive, self-motivated and innovative way.
