Mental health has been a topic of discussion in sociocultural settings, in which people with mental illness are discriminated against due to the characteristics of their illness. Today, it points to a humanistic stance that characterizes the Mental Health Law No. 19.529, in which the person is a subject of rights, the need to make reforms in the field of mental health care is recognized and established measures that range from the closure of asylums or asylums to the creation of assistance devices to move to a model where people with mental disorders are deinstitutionalized. However, it is a task that requires investment by the State, the fact of providing sufficient resources both to those who suffer psychically and to the socio-family environment, as well as training for the personnel who assist them. This reality has allowed us to recognize the importance of granting a place of assisted residence to these people to avoid seeing them become street dwellers, in addition, to promote actions to follow up on treatment and achieve effective accompaniment in their recovery process. The central objective of the article is aimed at carrying out a reflective analysis on the mental health care and safety of people with mental suffering, in accordance with Law 19.529 that proposes demanicomialization and to delve into this Uruguayan health reality those impacts within sociocultural spaces.
