This note has been conceived as a posthumous tribute to Professor Paola Bentivoglio, a pioneer in linguistic research on Venezuelan Spanish, as well as in the training of new generations of language scholars in the country. We first present biographical data of Professor Bentivoglio and describe her academic career. We then summarize part of her extensive scientific production; her role in the development and subsequent consolidation of corpus linguistics in Venezuela; and her contribution to the Asociación de Lingüística y Filología de América Latina (ALFAL). Finally, we highlight some of the more recent academic tributes that have been organized to honor her memory.
