We analyze, in this work, the emergence of você-pronoun in Brazilian Portuguese (BP), focusing specifically on the contexts involving verbal and non-verbal complement and adjunct pronouns. For this, we used a sample of private letters produced by a couple between the years 1936 and 1937. In the analysis, we rescued the problem of structural and social embedding, proposed by Weinreich, Labov and Herzog (1968), and the general principles of historical sociolinguistics (Conde Silvestre, 2007; Hernández-Campoy e Conde Silvestre, 2012). The results show that the oblique and dative syntactic positions selected by verbs favor the entry of você non-subject in the pronominal system. Regarding social factors, female informant with less domain writing favors the innovative form in her letters
