QUIAN, Jorge et al. Cobertura de vacunación antigripal en niños de Montevideo en el año 2010 . Arch. Pediatr. Urug. [online]. 2011, vol.82, n.4, pp.223-227. ISSN 1688-1249.

In 2006, a survey was conducted in Montevideo, in children aged between 6 and 23 months that showed very low influenza vaccination coverage. The objective of this study was to assess the same vaccine coverage throughout 2010 in children aged between 6 and 23 months, and between 2 to 5 years in Montevideo. Material and methods: observational, descriptive study in population belonging to ASSE (public sector) and two medical acre funds of Montevideo (private sector). Data was obtained anonymously through survey of parents and guardians asking about the reasons for vaccination and the reasons for not doing so. Results: 650 children were surveyed, responsible for 50.5% of the Group of 6 to 23 months and 49.5% of the Group of 2 to 5 years. 453 Children were vaccinated (69.7%), 69% in the private sector and 70.4% in the public sector. The main reason for vaccinating was medical indication and the main reason for not doing so was the absence of indication. Discussion: it is difficult to achieve high coverage of influenza vaccination in our country and in others. In the group where it is possible to compare, better results were obtained in 2010 than in 2006. It is likely that the fear of pandemic has been determinant. But medical indication has always been a key role in achieving better results
