BOCCARATO, ADRIANA; TABOAS, SILVIA  e  PANIZZA, RUBEN. Valoración de la asistencia ventilatoria en una unidad de tratamiento intensivo neonatal. Arch. Pediatr. Urug. [online]. 2004, vol.75, n.1, pp.13-25. ISSN 1688-1249.

Our main outcome was to evaluate the parameters used in assisted ventilation in neonates born in the Servicio de Recién Nacidos of Centro Hospitalario Pereira Rossell that were assisted in the NICU and its relationship between different complications and evolution. Method: 103 (64%) of all the neonates of that had their first admission to our NICU during 7 months, were included. We evaluated respiratory parameters, blood gases in their first 5 days, and all the complications and the evolution of the newborn until they were dismissed The results we have to underline the high frecuency of pCO2 of less than 40 mmHg in all the period. The mortality in our population was of 38%, with 54% for neonates with birth weight (BW) below 1500 gr and 26% for those with BW over 1500 gr. The mortality for neonates with BW below 1000 gr was 75%. There were no significant differences in the time during which ventilatory support was necessary, days in hospital, the ventilatory parameters used or frecuency of complications.
