The bone changes in lead intoxication are discussed, as well as the differential diagnosis with other diseases producing dense metaphyseal stripes. 28 cases constitute our present sample. The diagnosis rests primarily on the possibility of environmental contamination, the clinical picture and the blood lead level, and NOT on the radiological manifestations, which are not pathognomonic. Therefore X-ray examinations are to be avoided, except in special cases.
