SILVARINO, Ricardo et al. Experiencia de triaje estructurado en el departamento de urgencia. Rev. Méd. Urug. [online]. 2011, vol.27, n.2, pp.88-93. ISSN 1688-0390.

Summary Introduction: in the nineties structures triage models arose as a tool for clinical-healthcare management. Scales used in the structures triage enable prioritization of healthcare provision according to the "degree of urgency". A structures triage study was conducted at the Urgency Department of Sanatorio Americano based on the Canadian Emergency Department Triage and Acuity Scale. The present study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the structures triage as a tool for clinical management. Method: personal data and vital controls information on 500 consecutive patients was gathered, and their medical records were retrospectively audited with the purpose of finding parameters that enable the evaluation of the structures triage effectiveness Results: global stay at the Urgency Department was 101.5 minutes; 63% to 100% of consultations were seen within the pre-established times for each risk category. Global agreement between the initial diagnosis and diagnosis when discharged from the hospital was 93.6 %. Global agreement between risk category defined upon admittance and real risk audited upon discharge was 93%. Conclusions: Structures triage is an effective tool for clinical-healthcare management.
