This article addresses the dimensions of expert discourse related to the components of quality care, the role of families in these care and their limits, the role of women and the qualities necessary to provide quality care. The discourse presents aspects that reinforce gender stereotypes and others that allow a transformation of the roles assigned from a more equitable distribution of care
