Abstract

SLIMOVICH, Ana. Mediatization of Politics during the COVID-19 Pandemic. The Argumentation on the Social Media of Alberto Fernández and Mauricio Macri. Dixit [online]. 2021, n.34, pp.1-14.  Epub June 01, 2021. ISSN 0797-3691.  https://doi.org/10.22235/d34.2273.

The aim of this article is to analyze the mediatization of the discourse of the Argentine president, Alberto Fernández, in social networks, from his inauguration in December 2019 until June 2020 -with the framework of the expansion of the COVID-19 pandemic- and compare it with the discourse of the former president Mauricio Macri in the same period. From the theories of the mediatization of politics, and using socio-semiotic tools, a comparative analysis is carried out to find variants and invariants in the forms of argumentation and mediatization, before and during the outbreak. We describe the ways of the mediatization of politics that were generated in the networks of the two preceding presidents: Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and Mauricio Macri. Among the findings, we highlight the existence of new modes of mediatization of politics in the social networks of Alberto Fernández and Mauricio Macri during the pandemic, as well as continuities in relation to the period prior to the outbreak of COVID-19.
