El presente artículo muestra cómo esos argumentos nacen de un diagnóstico de época que puede ser fructíferamente ampliado con la crítica del presente que ofrecen también Tocqueville y Kierkegaard, subrayando además las diferencias en el tipo de individualidad que cada proyecto de libertad intelectual busca poner en el centro. Finalmente, consideramos la atención que Kierkegaard presta al problema de las ilusiones colectivas, y la necesidad de que ese punto sea integrado en nuestra discusión de la libertad de discusión]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: In On Liberty, John Stuart Mill offers a series of arguments in defense of intellectual freedom that are still invoked today. This article shows how these arguments arise from a diagnosis of the spirit of the age that can be fruitfully expanded upon with the analogous critiques of the present offered by Tocqueville and Kierkegaard, while also highlighting differences in the type of individuality that each of these intellectual projects place at the center. Finally, we consider Kierkegaard's attention to the problem of collective illusions and the need for this point to be integrated into our discussion of freedom of discussion]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[Resumo: Em Sobre a Liberdade, John Stuart Mill apresenta uma série de argumentos em defesa da liberdade intelectual que ainda hoje são invocados. O presente artigo mostra como esses argumentos nascem de um diagnóstico da época que pode ser amplamente ampliado com a crítica do presente que também Tocqueville e Kierkegaard oferecem, ressaltando ainda as diferenças no tipo de individualidade que cada projeto de liberdade intelectual busca colocar em foco. Por fim, consideramos a atenção que Kierkegaard dedica ao problema das ilusões coletivas e a necessidade de que esse ponto seja integrado à nossa discussão sobre a liberdade de discussão]]></p></abstract>
