The objective of this study was to characterize some physicochemical properties of soils under greenhouses with tomato cultivation (Solanum lycopersicum) and to relate them to soil management practices. For this, 30 commercial properties were selected from the horticultural area of northern Uruguay near the city of Salto. Soil samples were taken from the most representative greenhouse, at the end of the crop's productive period, from each farm. Additional information was collected such as area by production mode, number of consecutive crops in the same greenhouse, yield obtained in the harvest under study, and soil management. The high values observed for organic soil carbon (OSC), pH, available P, and mineral N suggest the need to decrease the application rates or frequency of organic amendments and/or fertilizers. The high concentrations of Na+ in the surface and NO3 - in the subsurface horizons indicate the need to improve irrigation management. This information could be used as a basis to outline aspects to delve into, for rational management of amendments and nutrients, and irrigation water in soils under these production systems.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen: Los cultivos bajo cubierta constituyen una modalidad de producción muy importante dentro de la horticultura del norte de Uruguay, pero existe escasa información sobre el estado actual de esos suelos. El objetivo de este estudio fue caracterizar algunas propiedades físico-químicas de suelos bajo invernáculos con cultivo de tomate (Solanum lycopersicum) y relacionarlas con prácticas de manejo del suelo. Para ello se seleccionaron 30 predios comerciales de la zona hortícola del norte de Uruguay cercana a la ciudad de Salto. Del invernáculo más representativo de cada predio se tomaron muestras de suelos al final del período productivo del cultivo y se recabó información adicional, como superficie por modalidad de producción, número de cultivos consecutivos en el mismo invernáculo, rendimiento obtenido en la zafra en estudio y manejo del suelo. Los altos valores observados de carbono orgánico del suelo (COS), pH, P disponible y N mineral sugieren la necesidad de ajustar las dosis y/o frecuencias de aplicación de enmiendas orgánicas y fertilizantes. Las altas concentraciones de Na+ en horizontes superficiales y de NO3 - en horizontes superficiales al final del período del cultivo indican la necesidad de mejorar el manejo del agua para riego. Esta información podría servir de base para delinear aspectos en los cuales profundizar para un manejo racional de fuentes orgánicas e inorgánicas, y del agua de riego en suelos bajo estos sistemas de producción.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[Resumo: As culturas cobertas são um método de produção muito importante na produção de frutas no norte do Uruguai, mas há poucas informações sobre o estado atual desses solos. O objetivo deste trabalho foi caracterizar algumas propriedades físico-químicas de solos de casa de vegetação com cultivo de tomate (Solanum lycopersicum) e relacioná-las às práticas de manejo do solo. Para isso, foram selecionados 30 imóveis comerciais na área de horticultura do norte do Uruguai próximo à cidade de Salto. As amostras de solo foram retiradas da casa de vegetação mais representativa ao final do período produtivo da cultura, de cada local. Foram coletadas informações adicionais como área por modo de produção, número de safras consecutivas na mesma casa de vegetação, produtividade obtida na safra em estudo e manejo do solo. Os elevados valores observados para o carbono orgânico do solo (OSC), pH, P disponível e N mineral sugerem a necessidade de diminuir as taxas de aplicação ou frequência de fertilizantes orgânicos e / ou fertilizantes. As altas concentrações de Na + na superfície e NO3 -nos horizontes subsuperficiais indicam a necessidade de melhorar o manejo da irrigação. Essas informações podem servir de base para delinear aspectos a serem estudados em profundidade, para o manejo racional de nutrientes, alterações orgânicas e água de irrigação nos solos desses sistemas de produção.]]></p></abstract>
