El objetivo fue determinar la importancia y dominio del idioma quechua en estudiantes de odontología de la Universidad Nacional de San Antonio Abad del Cusco. Investigación cuantitativa de alcance descriptivo, sobre una muestra de 153 estudiantes se medió la importancia del idioma quechua mediante un cuestionario y evaluó las habilidades receptivas y productivas mediante entrevistas. El 61,4% de los evaluados fueron estudiantes de sexo femenino, el 72,5% tuvieron procedencia urbana y con 85,6% como idioma materno el español. El 94,1% de la población manifestó que es importante el dominio del idioma quechua. En cuanto a las habilidades receptivas y productivas, presentaron 31,4% y 12,4% de nivel avanzado respectivamente. Los estudiantes de odontología en Cusco, consideran importante el dominio del idioma para su práctica profesional futura.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[Resumo O quíchua é falado em algumas regiões da América Latina, em muitas áreas rurais e urbanas do Peru, e usado pelos pacientes quando vão aos centros de saúde nas áreas rurais da região de Cusco. O objetivo foi determinar a importância e o domínio da língua quíchua nos estudantes de odontologia da Universidad Nacional de San Antonio Abad del Cusco. Pesquisa quantitativa de âmbito descritivo. Numa amostra de 153 estudantes, a importância da língua quéchua foi medida através de um questionário e as competências receptivas e produtivas foram avaliadas através de entrevistas. 61,4% dos avaliados eram estudantes do sexo feminino, 72,5% tinham origem urbana e 85,6% tinham o espanhol como língua materna. 94,1% da população afirmou que o domínio da língua quíchua é importante. Em relação às habilidades receptivas e produtivas, 31,4% e 12,4% apresentaram nível avançado respectivamente. Os estudantes de Odontologia consideram a proficiência no idioma importante para sua futura prática profissional.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Quechua is spoken in some regions of Latin America, in many rural and urban areas in Peru, and used by patients when they go to health facilities in rural areas in the Cusco region. The objective was to determine the importance and mastery of the Quechua language in dental students at the Universidad Nacional de San Antonio Abad del Cusco. Quantitative research of descriptive scope. On a sample of 153 students, the importance of the Quechua language was measured through a questionnaire and receptive and productive skills were evaluated through interviews. 61.4% of those evaluated were female students, 72.5% had urban origins and 85.6% had Spanish as their mother tongue. 94.1% of the population stated that mastery of the Quechua language is important. Regarding receptive and productive skills, 31.4% and 12.4% presented an advanced level respectively.
