El objetivo de este trabajo es identificar qué barreras son referidas por académicos y describir las particularidades de sus perspectivas y vivencias respecto de ellas. Para esto se realizó un estudio cualitativo con análisis temático por medio de entrevistas a docentes que se desempeñan en el pregrado de distintas carreras del área de la salud en Chile. Las barreras o dificultades que se encontraron se agrupan en torno a características de los estudiantes, los docentes y del entorno institucional y cultural. Las barreras identificadas surgen desde los desafíos que deben asumir los docentes ante los cambios que ocurren en la sociedad. Por esto resulta relevante la formación en docencia, la valoración de la labor docente y la necesidad de una constante indagación, tanto personal como institucional, de la práctica docente]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: Student-centered teaching is regarded as the ideal approach for higher education; however, significant barriers continue to hinder its full adoption. The aim of this study is to identify the barriers reported by academics and to describe the particularities of their perspectives and experiences concerning them. To this end, a qualitative study was conducted using thematic analysis based on interviews with faculty members teaching undergraduate programs in various health-related disciplines in Chile. The barriers and challenges identified cluster around student characteristics, faculty attributes, and institutional and cultural contexts. These barriers emerge from the challenges that educators must face in response to societal change. Therefore, teacher training, the recognition of teaching as a professional endeavor, and the ongoing, both personal and institutional, inquiry into teaching practices are of particular relevance]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[Resumo: A docência centrada na aprendizagem dos estudantes é a abordagem ideal para a formação no ensino superior, mas atualmente persistem barreiras para sua plena adoção. O objetivo deste trabalho é identificar quais barreiras são mencionadas por acadêmicos e descrever as particularidades de suas perspectivas e experiências a respeito delas. Para isso, realizou-se um estudo qualitativo com análise temática por meio de entrevistas a docentes que atuam em cursos de graduação em diferentes áreas da saúde no Chile. As barreiras ou dificuldades encontradas foram agrupadas em torno de características dos estudantes, dos docentes e do contexto institucional e cultural. As barreiras identificadas emergem dos desafios que os docentes devem assumir diante das mudanças que ocorrem na sociedade.
