However, excessive use has adverse effects on health and the environment. Therefore, plant extracts represent a sustainable alternative for pest control. In this study, the in vitro ovicidal activity of &#8220;matico&#8221;, Piper tuberculatum, on D. peruvianus was evaluated, determining the ovicidal effectiveness, lethal concentration (LC50) and lethal time (LT50) of the extracts of mature spikes and in vitro plants of P. tuberculatum. The CH2Cl2:MeOH (2:1) and EtOH extracts of in vitro plants achieved a percentage of inhibition in egg hatching of 94% and 82%, respectively, compared to the CH2Cl2:MeOH (2:1) and EtOH extract from mature spikes, which achieved percentages of inhibition in egg hatching of 76% and 60%, respectively. After 24 hours of evaluation, LC50 of mature spikes extracts was 0.305 and 0.351 mg/2 µL, while for the in vitro plants it was 0.229 and 0.127 mg/2 µL, respectively. The LT50 of mature spikes extract CH2Cl2:MeOH (2:1) was 24 hours, while for the in vitro plants it was 18 hours. Our study contributes to the development of more sustainable and effective alternatives for controlling D. peruvianus, reducing the dependence on synthetic pesticides and minimizing their environmental and health impacts.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen: Dysdercus peruvianus es un insecto hemíptero conocido como arrebiatado o chinche manchadora del algodón que, debido a sus hábitos y características morfológicas, afecta la calidad de la fibra en los cultivos de algodón, siendo los plaguicidas sintéticos la primera barrera para su control. Sin embargo, su uso excesivo tiene efectos adversos sobre la salud y el medio ambiente, por lo que los extractos de plantas son una alternativa sostenible para el control de plagas. En este estudio se evaluó la actividad ovicida in vitro de matico, Piper tuberculatum, sobre D. peruvianus, determinando la efectividad ovicida, concentración letal (CL50) y tiempo letal (TL50) de los extractos de espigas maduras y plantas in vitro de P. tuberculatum. Los extractos CH2Cl2:MeOH (2:1) y EtOH de plantas in vitro alcanzaron un porcentaje de inhibición en la eclosión de huevos de 94% y 82%, respectivamente, en comparación con los extractos CH2Cl2:MeOH (2:1) y EtOH de espigas maduras, que alcanzaron porcentajes de inhibición en la eclosión de huevos de 76% y 60%, respectivamente. Después de 24 horas de evaluación, la CL50 de los extractos de espigas maduras fue de 0,305 y 0,351 mg/2 µL, y de las plantas in vitro fue de 0,229 y 0,127 mg/2 µL, respectivamente. Neste estudo foi avaliada a atividade ovicida in vitro de &#8220;matico&#8221;, Piper tuberculatum em D. peruvianus, determinando a efetividade ovicida, concentração letal (CL50) e tempo letal (TL50) dos extratos de espigas maduras e plantas in vitro de P. tuberculatum.
