Internacionalmente se han realizado estudios descriptivos y predictivos de estos constructos. A nivel nacional hay muy escasa información por lo que se buscó contribuir a la comprensión de la interacción entre algunos componentes de las Funciones Ejecutivas (flexibilidad cognitiva, memoria visoespacial y resolución de problemas) y la rotación mental, con estudiantes de cuarto año de escuela. En el estudio se evaluó estas capacidades cognitivas mediante instrumentos específicos de medición (Tests de Clasificación de Tarjetas de Wisconsin, Cubos de Corsi, Rotación Mental, Matrices Progresivas de Raven y Torre de Londres) en una muestra de 75 estudiantes de dos escuelas de Montevideo. Los resultados se analizaron en relación a estudios normativos y antecedentes clave, realizados con distintas poblaciones escolares de diferentes países, para comenzar a identificar los desempeños en estos componentes en la población escolar nacional. Asimismo, sobre la base de estudios precedentes, se analizaron las asociaciones entre Funciones Ejecutivas y rotación mental. Los resultados mostraron que las medias y las medianas de los indicadores fueron cercanos a los estudios precedentes para casi todos los tests. El test de rotación mental correlacionó positiva y significativamente con los instrumentos que miden flexibilidad cognitiva y resolución de problemas, en especial con el test de Raven. No se encontraron diferencias significativas en relación al sexo.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: Cognitive flexibility, visuospatial skills and problem solving are abilities that accompany maturational development that contribute to learning. Descriptive and predictive studies of these constructs have been conducted internationally. Nationally, there is very little information, so we sought to contribute to the understanding of the interaction between some components of the Executive Functions (cognitive flexibility, visuospatial memory and problem solving) and mental rotation with fourth-year school students. In the study, these cognitive abilities were evaluated using specific measurement instruments (Wisconsin Card Sorting Tests, Corsi Cubes, Mental Rotation, Raven's Progressive Matrices and Tower of London) in a sample of 75 students from two schools in Montevideo. The results were analyzed in relation to key normative and background studies, carried out with different school populations from different countries, to begin to identify performance in these components in the national school population. Likewise, based on previous studies, the associations between Executive Functions and mental rotation were analyzed. The results showed that the means and medians of the indicators were close to previous studies for almost all tests. The mental rotation test correlated positively and significantly with the instruments that measure cognitive flexibility and problem solving, especially with the Raven test. No significant differences were found in relation to gender.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[Resumo: A flexibilidade cognitiva, as habilidades visuoespaciais e a resolução de problemas são capacidades que acompanham o desenvolvimento maturativo que favorece a aprendizagem. Estudos descritivos e preditivos desses construtos têm sido realizados internacionalmente. A nível nacional existe muito pouca informação, pelo que procurámos contribuir para a compreensão da interação entre algumas componentes das Funções Executivas (flexibilidade cognitiva, memória visuoespacial e resolução de problemas) e rotação mental com alunos do quarto ano. No estudo, essas habilidades cognitivas foram avaliadas por meio de instrumentos de medida específicos (Wisconsin Card Sorting Tests, Corsi Cubes, Mental Rotation, Raven's Progressive Matrices e Tower of London) em uma amostra de 75 alunos de duas escolas de Montevidéu. Os resultados foram analisados em relação aos principais estudos normativos e de base, realizados com diferentes populações escolares de diferentes países, para começar a identificar o desempenho nestas componentes na população escolar nacional. Da mesma forma, com base em estudos anteriores, foram analisadas as associações entre Funções Executivas e rotação mental. Os resultados mostraram que as médias e medianas dos indicadores estiveram próximas de estudos anteriores para quase todos os testes. O teste de rotação mental correlacionou-se positiva e significativamente com os instrumentos que medem a flexibilidade cognitiva e a resolução de problemas, especialmente com o teste Raven. Não foram encontradas diferenças significativas em relação ao sexo.]]></p></abstract>
