El diagnóstico de PIF en su forma no efusiva es un gran desafío y se basa en la sintomatología clínica, detección viral y en los hallazgos de laboratorio. En este sentido, la relación albúmina/globulina y el aumento en la fracción de &#947;-globulinas obtenida mediante proteinograma electroforético (PEF) son indicadores importantes y complementarios para el diagnóstico de la PIF. El objetivo del presente trabajo fue utilizar por primera vez el PEF como herramienta diagnóstica de un caso clínico de un felino con diagnóstico clínico de PIF no efusivo, donde la realización un PEF junto a estudios complementarios de rutina permitió arribar a un diagnóstico definitivo. El resultado del PEF evidenció un pico policlonal en las &#947; globulinas, una concentración de albúmina sérica disminuida y una relación albúmina/globulina de 0,23. Basados en estos resultados, se discute cómo el PEF principalmente en la forma no efusiva de la PIF puede apoyar el diagnostico de esta enfermedad, permitiendo emitir un pronóstico preciso y contribuir con el veterinario clínico en la toma de decisiones terapéuticas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: Feline infectious peritonitis (PIF) is an infectious disease which has a high mortality rate compared to other infectious diseases among feline population. It clinically manifested under two forms, effusive or non-effusive. PIF&#8217;s diagnosis, mainly the non-effusive form, is a clinical challenge based on symptoms, viral detection and laboratory findings. In this regard, the albumin/globulin ratio and the increase on the &#947; globulin fraction of the capillary zone electrophoresis (PEF) are important and complementary indicators for the antemortem diagnosis of PIF. This job&#8217;s objective was to exhibit a feline clinical case clinically diagnosed with non-effusive PIF in which the PEF, along with other complementary routine tests, allowed to reach a definitive diagnosis. PEF&#8217;s results showed a polyclonal peak on the &#947; globulin fraction, a decreased serum albumin concentration and an albumin/globulin ratio of 0,23. Based on these results we discuss how the PEF, mainly on the non-effusive form of PIF, can support this disease diagnosis allowing to dictate an accurate prognosis and helping the clinical veterinarian on therapeutic decisions.]]></p></abstract>
