Doce borregos alimentados únicamente con forraje fresco (predominantementeLotus corniculatus) durante 6 h por díafueron distribuidos en 2 grupos: forraje cortado y ofrecido a animales en estabulación (E) o a pastoreo (P). Se estudió el comportamiento ingestivo, pH y concentraciones de amoníaco (N-NH3) en rumen, y actividad del líquido ruminal mediante la técnica de producción de gas in vitro. El comportamiento ingestivo de los borregos, en particular, el tiempo destinado a la rumia, fue diferente según el tratamiento. Los borregos a pastoreo dedicaron menos tiempo rumiando que los borregos estabulados (valores promedio: 49 y 4 minutos durante las primeras 6 horas en relación al inicio de la comida, Ey P respectivamente,P=0,004).El pH ruminal no fue afectado por el método de suministro de forraje (valores promedio: 6,94 y 6,62;E y P respectivamente,P=0,715) pero los borregos a pastoreo presentaron mayores concentraciones de N-NH3 (valores promedio: 23,5 y 30,1 mg/dL, Ey P respectivamente,P&lt;0,001). La actividad in vitro del líquido ruminal de los borregos estabulados y a pastoreo fue similar (volumen de gas promedio hasta la hora 96 de incubación: 205 y 169 mL/MS incubada, E y P respectivamente,P=0,317). Estos resultados sugieren que los borregos a pastoreo habrían presentado una selección más intensa de la dieta, ingiriendo mayor cantidad de hojas que los borregos estabulados, sin cambios en la actividad fermentativa ruminal.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Summary: The effect of two feeding methods (indoors vs.grazing.) was studied in ovines. Twelvelambs fed fresh forage (predominantly Lotus corniculatus) during 6h per daywere allocated in 2 groups:forage cut and offered to animals housed indoors (I) or at pasture (P).Feeding behavior, ruminal pH and ammonia (N-NH3) concentration, and in vitroruminal liquor activity using the gas production technique were studied. The feeding behavior of the lambs was different according to the treatment, particularly, the time spent ruminating.Lambs at pasture spent less time ruminating than indoors lambs(mean values: 49 and 4 minutes during the first 6 hours relating to the meal beginning, I and P respectively,P=0.004).Ruminal pH was not affected by the way of access to forage (mean values: 6.94 and 6.62, I and P respectively,P=0.715) but lambs at pasture had higher N-NH3 concentration (mean values: 23.5 and 30.1 mg/dL, I and P respectively,P&lt;0.001).The in vitroruminal liquor activity of lambs indoors and at pasture was similar (mean volumes of gas until hour 96 of incubation: 205 and 169 mL/incubated DM, I and P respectively,P=0.317).
