Su diagnóstico y tratamiento oportuno representan un importante desafío para las unidades de terapia intensiva neonatal.  Objetivos: determinar la incidencia, factores de riesgo y morbimortalidad asociada a la sepsis neonatal precoz. Analizar la sensibilidad antibiótica de los microorganismos aislados.  Metodología:  estudio retrospectivo, descriptivo, acerca de los casos de sepsis neonatal bacteriana precoz entre los años 2014 y 2020 en el Centro Hospitalario Pereira Rossell (CHPR).  Resultados:  22 casos de sepsis neonatales bacterianas precoces fueron identificados en el período descrito, con una incidencia total de 0,47 cada 1.000 nacidos vivos. La incidencia aumenta a medida que disminuye la edad gestacional. La totalidad de los recién nacidos presentaron sintomatología respiratoria, 20 de ellos fue en las primeras 48 horas. Los microorganismos más frecuentes fueron Estreptococo del grupo B (EGB) y E. coli en términos y pretérminos respectivamente. El plan antibiótico empírico utilizado (ampicilina y gentamicina) es efectivo contra estos microorganismos teniendo en cuenta su sensibilidad antibiótica. La mortalidad reportada fue de 0,13 cada 1.000 recién nacidos vivos.  Conclusiones: la incidencia de sepsis precoz en el CHPR es similar a la reportada a nivel mundial. La mortalidad es baja, afectando principalmente a prematuros severos. La prevención de la transmisión materno-fetal del EGB continúa siendo una herramienta valiosa en esta enfermedad.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Summary:  Introduction:  early onset of bacterial neonatal sepsis is an important cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality. Diagnosis and early treatment are a major challenge for neonatal intensive care units.  Objectives: determine the incidence, risk factors, morbidity and mortality associated with early onset neonatal sepsis. Analyze antibiotic sensitivity of the isolated microorganisms.  Methodology:  retrospective, descriptive study about cases of early onset bacterial neonatal sepsis between 2014-2020 at the Pereira Rossell Pediatric Hospital (CHPR).  Results: 22 cases of early bacterial neonatal sepsis were identified in the period mentioned above, with a total incidence of 0.47 per 1000 live births. The incidence increased as gestational age decreased. All newborns presented respiratory symptoms, 20 of them in the first 48 hours. The most frequent microorganisms were group B Streptococcus (GBS) and E. coli in terms and pre-term patients respectively. The empirical antibiotic plan used (ampicillin and gentamicin) was effective against these microorganisms taking into account their antibiotic sensitivity. The reported mortality was 0.13 per 1000 live births.  Conclusions:  the incidence of early sepsis in the CHPR is similar to that reported globally. Mortality is low, mainly affecting severely premature babies. Prevention of maternal-fetal transmission of GBS continues to be a valuable tool in preventing this disease.]]></p></abstract>

Os microrganismos mais frequentes foram Streptococcus do grupo B (GBS) e E. coli em termos e prematuros respectivamente. O plano antibiótico empírico utilizado (ampicilina e gentamicina) é eficaz contra estes microrganismos tendo em conta a sua sensibilidade aos antibióticos. A mortalidade relatada foi de 0,13 por 1.000 nascidos vivos.  Conclusões:  a incidência de sepse precoce no CHPR é semelhante à relatada mundialmente. A mortalidade é baixa, afetando principalmente bebês prematuros graves. A prevenção da transmissão materno-fetal da SGB continua a ser uma ferramenta valiosa nesta doença.]]></p></abstract>
