Objetivo:  identificar las diferencias entre hombres y mujeres en la presentación clínica, tratamiento y mortalidad de los pacientes tratados con angioplastia coronaria primaria (ATC1ª) en el IAMST.  Método y resultados:  se analizó una cohorte histórica de 7.742 ATC1ª en las primeras 24 horas del IAMST en 7.337 pacientes (30,9% mujeres) de 2004 a 2012 en Uruguay, bajo cobertura financiera del Fondo Nacional de Recursos (FNR). La mediana de seguimiento fue de 4,3 años. Las mujeres fueron significativamente mayores que los hombres (edad 67,9 ± 12,1 vs 60,8 ± 11,7 años, p=0,009). La prevalencia de diabetes y shock cardiogénico fue mayor en mujeres que en hombres (24,4% vs 18,4%, p&lt;0,001 y 7,6% vs 5,2%, p&lt;0,001 respectivamente). Las mujeres recibieron menos tratamiento con fibrinolíticos (FBL) (5,5% vs 8,1%, p&lt;0,001) y menos angioplastia multivaso (7,3% vs 9,0%, p&lt;0,013). Su mortalidad fue mayor para el mismo día del procedimiento (2,9% vs 1,7%, p&lt;0,001), a 30 días (10,4% vs 6,5%, p&lt;0,001), al año (15,4% vs 10,8% p&lt;0,001) y a los cinco años (27,9% vs 26,6%, p&lt;0,001). En el análisis multivariado el género no fue un predictor independiente de mortalidad a 30 días.  Conclusiones:  si bien las mujeres presentaron características clínicas de mayor riesgo, recibieron una revascularización menos completa. La mortalidad en cualquier período del seguimiento fue mayor que la de los hombres. El ser mujer no fue un predictor independiente de mortalidad a 30 días.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Summary Although gender differences in presentation and treatment for ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) have been previously reported, there is little information about the characteristics of our population.  Objective:  to identify gender differences in clinical presentation, treatment and mortality rate of patients treated with primary coronary angioplasty (PTCA) in STEMI.  Methods and results:  historical cohort of 7.742 PTCA within 24 hours of STEMI in 7.337 patients (30.9% women) from 2004 to 2012 in Uruguay, under national financial coverage of the &#8220;Fondo Nacional de Recursos&#8221; were studied. Median follow-up was 4.3 years. Female patients were significantly older than men, age 67.9 ± 12.1 versus 60.8 ±11.7 years (p=0.009). The rate of diabetes and cardiogenic shock were significantly higher in women versus men, respectively 24.4% vs 18.4%, p&lt;0.001 and 7.6% vs 5.2%, p&lt;0.001.
