Una razón de esto es el uso inadecuado de los servicios de urgencias, cuando los usuarios acuden a ellos por problemas que pueden resolverse en el primer nivel de atención (PNA). En la zona de Canelones Oeste, Uruguay, también se identifica este problema. El presente trabajo fue realizado en el servicio de urgencias del Hospital de Las Piedras, Canelones, Uruguay.  Objetivos: contribuir a una aproximación de las razones por las que la población decide consultar en el servicio de urgencias, y valorar si dichos usuarios cuentan con un servicio de salud del PNA o médico con quien se atiendan regularmente.  Materiales y método: se realizó en setiembre a noviembre de 2022 un estudio observacional, descriptivo, con una encuesta de preguntas de múltiple opción y abiertas, cortas mediante un formulario de Google que era completado por las investigadoras en la sala de espera.  Resultados: participaron de forma voluntaria 250 usuarios. El 13,6% de los encuestados refirieron consultar por un motivo de consulta que no se podría resolver en el primer nivel de atención. El motivo para consultar en el servicio de urgencias que obtuvo más respuestas afirmativas (42%) fue &#8220;porque era más rápida la atención&#8221;.  Conclusiones: este estudio puede contribuir a pensar soluciones al problema de la sobrecarga de los servicios de urgencias, al aportar la visión de los usuarios sobre las razones por las que consultan en dichos servicios. Mejorar la disponibilidad de consultas del día en el PNA y educar sobre el correcto uso de los niveles de atención se proponen como estrategias posibles.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Introduction: emergency services worldwide report service demands that exceed available resources. One reason for this is the inappropriate use of emergency services, when users seek care for problems that could be resolved at the primary care level (PCL). In the Canelones Oeste area of Uruguay, this issue has also been identified. This study was conducted at the emergency department of the Hospital de Las Piedras, Canelones, Uruguay.  Objectives: to explore the reasons why the population chooses to seek care in emergency services, and to assess whether these users have a regular health service or primary care physician.  Materials and method: an observational, descriptive study was conducted from September to November 2022, using a survey with multiple-choice and short open-ended questions administered via a Google form, which was completed by the researchers in the waiting room.  Results: a total of 250 users voluntarily participated. Among them, 13.6% reported consulting for a reason that could not be resolved at the primary care level. The main reason for seeking care at the emergency service, selected by 42% of respondents, was &#8220;because the care was faster.&#8221;  Conclusions: this study may help identify solutions to the problem of emergency service overload by providing insight into users&#8217; perspectives on their reasons for seeking emergency care. Improving same-day appointment availability at the PCL and educating the population on the appropriate use of healthcare levels are proposed as possible strategies.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[Resumo  Introdução: serviços de urgência em todo o mundo relatam demandas que superam a disponibilidade de recursos. Uma das razões para isso é o uso inadequado dos serviços de urgência, quando os usuários procuram atendimento para problemas que poderiam ser resolvidos no primeiro nível de atenção (PNA). Na região de Canelones Oeste, Uruguai, este problema também foi identificado. Este estudo foi realizado no serviço de urgência do Hospital de Las Piedras, Canelones, Uruguai.  Objetivos: investigar as razões pelas quais a população decide buscar atendimento no serviço de urgência e avaliar se esses usuários possuem um serviço de saúde ou médico de atenção primária com quem se consultem regularmente.  Materiais e método: foi realizado um estudo observacional e descritivo entre setembro e novembro de 2022, utilizando um questionário de múltipla escolha e perguntas abertas curtas aplicado por meio de um formulário Google, preenchido pelas pesquisadoras na sala de espera.  Resultados: participaram voluntariamente 250 usuários. Entre eles, 13,6% relataram buscar atendimento por um motivo que não poderia ser resolvido no primeiro nível de atenção. O principal motivo para consultar no serviço de urgência, indicado por 42% dos participantes, foi &#8220;porque o atendimento era mais rápido&#8221;.  Conclusões: este estudo pode contribuir para pensar em soluções para o problema da sobrecarga dos serviços de urgência, trazendo a perspectiva dos usuários sobre os motivos que os levam a buscar este tipo de atendimento. Melhorar a disponibilidade de consultas no mesmo dia no PNA e promover a educação sobre o uso adequado dos níveis de atenção são propostas como estratégias possíveis.]]></p></abstract>
