Se observó un consumo total anual de antibióticos de 75,06 DDD/100 cama/día para la totalidad servicio, siendo el grupo terapéutico que presentó mayor consumo sulfonamidas (cotrimoxazol) con 25 DDD/100 camas/día, seguido por cefuroxima (14 DDD/100 camas/día) y ampicilina sulbactam (7,1 DDD/100 camas/día). Los principales microorganismos aislados fueron S. aureus, P. aeruginosa, K.pneumoniae y E.coli. Se estableció correlación entre el consumo de antibióticos y los microorganismos hallados, encontrando asociación en al menos la mitad de estos. Es el primer estudio de consumo de antibióticos a nivel de cuidados intensivos de adultos publicado en el país y este tipo de datos constituyen herramientas para racionalizar y optimizar el uso de antibióticos.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract This study aims to characterize antibiotic consumption and antimicrobial resistance of the most frequently isolated microorganisms in an adult intensive care unit in Montevideo during 2019, through a drug utilization study (DUS) in the private health sector. The total annual antibiotic consumption was 75.06 DDD/100 bed-days for the entire unit, with the highest consumption corresponding to the sulfonamide group (cotrimoxazole) at 25 DDD/100 bed-days, followed by cefuroxime (14 DDD/100 bed-days) and ampicillin-sulbactam (7.1 DDD/100 bed-days). The main isolated microorganisms were S. aureus, P. aeruginosa, K. pneumoniae, and E. coli. A correlation was established between antibiotic consumption and the isolated microorganisms, showing an association in at least half of the cases. This is the first published study on antibiotic consumption in adult intensive care in the country, and this type of data serves as a tool to rationalize and optimize antibiotic use.]]></p></abstract>

Observou-se um consumo total anual de antibióticos de 75,06 DDD/100 leitos/dia para todo o serviço, sendo o grupo terapêutico com maior consumo as sulfonamidas (cotrimoxazol), com 25 DDD/100 leitos/dia, seguido por cefuroxima (14 DDD/100 leitos/dia) e ampicilina-sulbactam (7,1 DDD/100 leitos/dia).
