Su estructura puede evaluarse mediante ultrasonido y la calidad muscular puede estimarse a través de la capacidad de generación de fuerza con dinamometría o Dinabang®.  Objetivo: investigar la relación entre la calidad y la estructura del músculo esquelético en grupos musculares de voluntarios sanos.  Métodos: se reclutaron 20 voluntarios sanos. Se obtuvieron variables antropométricas con una balanza digital específica. Mediante ultrasonido, se midieron el grosor muscular, el área de sección transversal, el ángulo de penación y la eco-intensidad del recto femoral, vasto lateral, bíceps femoral, bíceps braquial y la capa muscular del antebrazo. La fuerza muscular se evaluó con un dinamómetro de prensión manual y un Dinabang®.  Resultados: la fuerza de prensión se correlacionó con el grosor bicipital (rho = 0,910, P &lt; 0,001) y el grosor del antebrazo (rho = 0,825, P &lt; 0,001). La fuerza cuadricipital se correlacionó con el área de sección transversal del recto femoral (rho = 0,660, P = 0,002) y su grosor muscular (rho = 0,578, P = 0,008), e inversamente con la eco-intensidad del vasto lateral (rho = &#8722;0,540, P = 0,014). La fuerza de los isquiotibiales se correlacionó con el grosor del bíceps femoral (rho = 0,667, P = 0,001) y el ángulo de penación (rho = 0,522, P = 0,018).  Conclusiones: en todos los grupos estudiados se observó una correlación entre parámetros funcionales y estructurales. Aunque se necesita más investigación, el ultrasonido emerge como una herramienta confiable para inferir la función muscular.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Background: Skeletal muscle is the most relevant tissue in body biomechanics. Its structure can be assessed using ultrasound, while muscle quality can be estimated through force generation capacity using dynamometry or Dinabang®.  Objective: To investigate the relationship between skeletal muscle quality and structure in muscle groups of healthy volunteers.  Methods: Twenty healthy volunteers were recruited. Anthropometric variables were obtained using a specific digital scale. Ultrasound was used to measure muscle thickness, cross-sectional area, pennation angle, and echo intensity of the rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, biceps femoris, biceps brachii, and forearm muscle layer. Muscle strength was evaluated using a handgrip dynamometer and a Dinabang®.  Results: Handgrip strength correlated with biceps thickness (rho = 0.910, P &lt; 0.001) and forearm thickness (rho = 0.825, P &lt; 0.001). Quadriceps strength correlated with the cross-sectional area of the rectus femoris (rho = 0.660, P = 0.002) and its muscle thickness (rho = 0.578, P = 0.008), and inversely with the echo intensity of the vastus lateralis (rho = &#8722;0.540, P = 0.014). Hamstring strength correlated with biceps femoris thickness (rho = 0.667, P = 0.001) and pennation angle (rho = 0.522, P = 0.018).  Conclusions: In all studied groups, a correlation was found between functional and structural parameters. Objetivo: Investigar a relação entre a qualidade e a estrutura do músculo esquelético em grupos musculares de voluntários saudáveis.  Métodos: Vinte voluntários saudáveis foram recrutados. Variáveis antropométricas foram obtidas com uma balança digital específica. O ultrassom foi utilizado para medir a espessura muscular, a área de secção transversal, o ângulo de penação e a eco-intensidade do reto femoral, vasto lateral, bíceps femoral, bíceps braquial e da camada muscular do antebraço. A força muscular foi avaliada com um dinamômetro de preensão manual e um Dinabang®.  Resultados: A força de preensão correlacionou-se com a espessura do bíceps (rho = 0.910, P &lt; 0.001) e a espessura do antebraço (rho = 0.825, P &lt; 0.001). A força do quadríceps correlacionou-se com a área de secção transversal do reto femoral (rho = 0.660, P = 0.002) e sua espessura muscular (rho = 0.578, P = 0.008), e inversamente com a eco-intensidade do vasto lateral (rho = &#8722;0.540, P = 0.014).
