Su objetivo es analizar la percepción que los lectores de la serie tenían sobre los acontecimientos de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Se trata de un trabajo pionero en lo que se refiere a la recepción de los cómics de prensa -medio de comunicación de gran importancia en la época analizada- ya que el número de lectores de las series más exitosas, como en la que centra este artículo, superaba los treinta millones. El estudio se basa en las cartas enviadas por los lectores al autor, que se conservan en los archivos de la Ohio State University. Se muestra la importancia que los personajes de la serie tenían para los lectores, así como la percepción de estos sobre el conflicto bélico desde el punto de vista civil y militar.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: This paper presents a study of the reception of the series of newspaper comics Terry and the Pirates by Milton Caniff. The perception of the events of World War II that the readers of the series had is analyzed. This is a pioneering study regarding the reception of newspaper comics, a medium of communication of great importance in the analyzed period, since the number of readers of the most successful series, such as the one that focuses this article, exceeded thirty million. The study is based on letters sent by readers to the author preserved at Ohio State University. This article shows the importance that the characters had for the readers, and the perception of the warfare conflict from the civil and military points of view.]]></p></abstract>
