La cirrosis representa el estadio final común al cual convergen diferentes enfermedades hepáticas crónicas. La sobrevida de los pacientes cirróticos es evaluada a través de scores pronósticos como el Child-Pugh y el Modelo para la Enfermedad Hepática Terminal (MELD). Ninguno de estos incluye a la anemia en sus variables. El objetivo del presente estudio es evaluar si la anemia constituye un factor predictor de mala evolución, complicaciones o muerte en el paciente cirrótico.  Metodología:  Estudio analítico, observacional, retrospectivo y longitudinal de pacientes con cirrosis hepática en lista de espera para trasplante hepático. Se realizó un seguimiento durante los 12 meses posteriores al ingreso a lista de espera, registrando las descompensaciones, complicaciones, muerte o trasplante, así como la presencia o ausencia de anemia y la severidad de esta.  Resultados:  47 pacientes fueron incluidos. 55% de sexo masculino, edad media 50.6 años El 76.5% de la población presentó anemia al ingreso a lista. En cuanto a la severidad de la misma el 61% fue leve, 31% moderada, y 8% severa. En el 77% de los pacientes que presentaron descompensaciones previo al ingreso a lista se observó la presencia de anemia. Durante los 12 meses de estudio se descompensaron el 68% de los pacientes; de estos el 81.3% tenía anemia. En cuanto a la relación entre la presencia de anemia y muerte, el 100% de los fallecidos presentaban anemia con una media de Hb de 9.3 g/dl. Conclusiones: Si bien no se pudo establecer una asociación estadísticamente significativa entre las variables estudiadas, se objetivó que los pacientes con anemia presentaron en mayor proporción una enfermedad hepática más avanzada, se descompensaron más frecuentemente y fueron los únicos en los cuales se documentó el evento muerte.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract:  Introduction:  Anemia is a prognostic factor and a predictor of poor outcomes, complications, and mortality in a range of chronic diseases. Cirrhosis represents the final common stage reached by different chronic liver diseases. The survival of cirrhotic patients is evaluated through prognostic scores such as the Child-Pugh and the Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD). The objetive of the present study is to assess whether anemia is a predictive factor of poor outcomes, complications, or death in patients with cirrhosis.  Methodology:  Analytical, observational, retrospective, and longitudinal study of patients with liver cirrhosis listed for liver transplantation. Follow-up was conducted over the 12 months following inclusion on the waiting list, based on medical records, documenting decompensations, complications, death, or transplantation, as well as the presence or absence of anemia and its severity.  Results:  47 patients were included. 55% were male, the mean age was 50.6 years. Of the total study population, 76.5% presented anemia at the time of listing. Regarding its severity, 61% had mild anemia, 31% moderate, and 8% severe. In 77% of the patients who presented decompensations prior to being placed on the waiting list, anemia was observed. During the 12-month follow-up, 68% of patients experienced decompensation, and among them, 81.3% had anemia. Concerning the relationship between anemia and death, 100% of the deceased patients had anemia, with a mean hemoglobin level of 9.3 g/dL. O objetivo do presente estudo é avaliar se a anemia constitui um fator preditivo de pior evolução, complicações ou morte em pacientes com cirrose.  Metodologia:  Estudo analítico, observacional, retrospectivo e longitudinal com pacientes com cirrose hepática incluídos na lista de espera para transplante hepático. O acompanhamento foi realizado durante os 12 meses posteriores à inclusão na lista de espera, com base no prontuário médico, registrando as descompensações, complicações, morte ou transplante, bem como a presença ou ausência de anemia e sua gravidade.  Resultados:  Foram incluídos 47 pacientes. 55% eram do sexo masculino, e a média de idade foi de 50,6 anos. Do total da população estudada, 76,5% apresentou anemia no momento da inclusão na lista. Quanto à sua gravidade: 61% tinham anemia leve, 31% moderada e 8% severa. Em 77% dos pacientes que apresentaram descompensações antes da inclusão na lista, observou-se a presença de anemia. Durante os 12 meses do estudo, 68% dos pacientes descompensaram; desses, 81,3% tinham anemia. Em relação à associação entre anemia e óbito, 100% dos pacientes que faleceram apresentavam anemia, com uma média de Hb de 9,3 g/dL.
