Se ha descrito la coexistencia de mpox con infecciones de transmisión sexual (ITS), principalmente en población de hombres que tienen sexo con hombres (HSH) y pacientes con virus inmunodeficiencia humana (VIH). El objetivo del trabajo es realizar el diagnóstico y seguimiento de ITS en pacientes con sospecha de viruela símica atendidos en el Hospital Roosevelt, Guatemala.  Metodología: Estudio descriptivo, longitudinal, retrospectivo. La población fue conformada por un total de 78 registros de adultos con sospecha de mpox.  Resultados: Todos los pacientes fueron de sexo masculino. El rango de edad predominante fue de 20-29 (52.9%) con una media de 25 años; 76.9% refirió orientación sexual HSH, 16.7% bisexual y 6.4% heterosexual. El 92.3% fue positivo para mpox. Se encontró 61.5% de coinfección mpox y VIH. El 33.3% presentó alguna ITS. La coinfección general de mpox e ITS fue de 26.9%, en tanto que por agente causal fue 15.4% con sífilis, 10.3% con C. trachomatis al igual que N. gonorrhoeae, 9.0% con cada uno de los microorganismos Mycoplasma hominis y Ureaplasma urealyticum, 7.7% con Candida albicans, 5.1% con Mycoplasma genitalium igual que con herpes simple 2 y 1.3% herpes simple 1; todos los casos eran conocidos por ser portadores de VIH. Además, se detectó 2.6% de VHB y 5.1% de VHC.  Conclusiones: Los resultados demuestran la importancia de realizar la detección de ITS en personas con sospecha de mpox, así como pruebas de infecciones no consideradas de transmisión sexual, pero que pueden ser adquiridas al tener la misma vía de transmisión.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract:  Introduction:  Monkeypox (mpox) is a zoonotic viral infection that produces a skin rash similar to smallpox. The coexistence of mpox with sexually transmitted diseases (STIs) has been described, mainly in the population of men who have sex with men (MSM) and HIV patients. The objective is diagnose and monitor STIs in patients with suspected monkeypox treated at the Roosevelt Hospital, Guatemala.  Methods:  Descriptive, longitudinal, retrospective study. The population was made up of a total of 78 records of adults with suspected mpox.  Results:  All patients were male. The predominant age range was 20-29 (52.9%) with a mean of 25 years; 76.9% reported MSM sexual orientation, 16.7% bisexual and 6.4% heterosexual. 92.3% were positive for mpox. 61.5% mpox and HIV coinfection was found. 33.3% presented some STI. The general coinfection of mpox and STI was 26.9%, while by causal agent it was 15.4% with syphilis, 10.3% with C. trachomatis as well as N. gonorrhoeae, 9.0% with each of the microorganisms Mycoplasma hominis and Ureaplasma urealyticum, 7.7% with Candida albicans, 5.1% with Mycoplasma genitalium same as with herpes simplex 2 and 1.3% herpes simplex 1; all cases were known to be HIV carriers. In addition, 2.6% of HBV and 5.1% of HCV were detected.  Conclusion:  The results demonstrate the importance of screening for STIs in people with suspected mpox, as well as testing for infections that are not considered sexually transmitted, but that can be acquired by having the same route of transmission.]]></p></abstract>

A coexistência de mpox com doenças sexualmente transmissíveis (IST) tem sido descrita, principalmente na população de homens que fazem sexo com homens (HSH) e pacientes HIV. El objetivo es diagnosticar e monitorar ISTs em pacientes com suspeita de varíola dos macacos tratados no Hospital Roosevelt, Guatemala.  Métodos:  Estudo descritivo, longitudinal e retrospectivo. A população foi composta por um total de 78 registros de adultos com suspeita de mpox.  Resultados:  Todos os pacientes eram do sexo masculino. A faixa etária predominante foi de 20 a 29 anos (52,9%) com média de 25 anos; 76,9% relataram orientação sexual HSH, 16,7% bissexuais e 6,4% heterossexuais. 92,3% foram positivos para mpox. Foi encontrada coinfecção por mpox e HIV em 61,5%. 33,3% apresentaram alguma IST. A coinfecção geral de mpox e IST foi de 26,9%, enquanto por agente causal foi de 15,4% com sífilis, 10,3% com C. trachomatis bem como N. gonorrhoeae, 9,0% com cada um dos microrganismos Mycoplasma hominis e Ureaplasma urealyticum, 7,7% com Candida albicans, 5,1% com Mycoplasma genitalium, o mesmo que com herpes simples 2 e 1,3% herpes simples 1; todos os casos eram conhecidos como portadores de HIV. Além disso, foram detectados 2,6% de HBV e 5,1% de HCV.  Conclusão:  Os resultados demonstram a importância do rastreio de IST em pessoas com suspeita de mpox, bem como do teste de infecções que não são consideradas sexualmente transmissíveis, mas que podem ser adquiridas pela mesma via de transmissão.]]></p></abstract>
