El foco de interés innovador del Congreso es “El corazón interactuando con los órganos sistémicos.” La interacción de la situación cardíaca con otros órganos es de importancia fundamental para nuestros pacientes, para su evolución, seguridad y para el manejo clínico. Tenemos mucho que aprender mutuamente de diversas áreas de especialidades afines y el Congreso de la Sociedad Europea de Cardiología (ESC) 2013 atraerá a especialistas en otros sistemas que ayudarán a entender mejor los mecanismos de las enfermedades y mejorar el manejo de nuestros pacientes.
]]>Un congreso personalizado e interactivo
En el Congreso ESC 2013 cada uno podrá desarrollar un programa personalizado, dependiendo del interés de nuestra especialidad o nuestras necesidades formativas. Es un encuentro verdaderamente internacional (¡el mayor número de temas libres remitidos fueron desde Japón!). Tenemos sesiones conjuntas con muchas sociedades de todo el mundo y 16 sesiones vinculadas con oportunidad directa de interacción con los expertos y líderes de opinión. Este año por primera vez tendremos los posters de “disparo rápido” seguidos de una discusión interactiva con una presentación electrónica de los hallazgos claves de cada uno de los estudios presentados (figuras 1, 2 y 3). También por primera vez las presentaciones de los posters estarán estimuladas por comentadores expertos en ese campo de investigación. Otra innovación es “Conozca las Leyendas en Cardiología”, donde los participantes podrán enviar preguntas o hacerlas durante la sesión a personas que han cambiado nuestra comprensión de la Cardiología y ayudado a dar forma a la Cardiología 2013.
“Aldeas” de temas vinculados (“Villages”)
Hay un enorme entusiasmo a nivel internacional por participar en este congreso con un número record de envíos para las sesiones científicas planificadas (se seleccionaron más de 400) y el segundo mayor número de temas libres remitidos (10.490). Para hacer el congreso más amigable nuevamente lo hemos ordenado en “aldeas” de los temas relacionados. Por tanto, una “aldea” puede incluir presentaciones en un salón sobre Insuficiencia cardíaca y en el salón contiguo sobre trastornos del ritmo. A través de este concepto de “aldea” el congreso se vuelve más interactivo y manejable. En el Congreso ESC 2013 se presentarán nuevas guías en Hipertensión Arterial, Estimulación Cardíaca, Diabetes y Enfermedad Coronaria Estable. Vinculadas a estas habrá sesiones científicas dedicadas y enfocadas en análisis de casos.
¿Porqué alguien debería venir a participar en el Congreso?
Los resúmenes de las presentaciones destacadas aparecerán on-line, pero para realmente entender la importancia de las nuevas investigaciones es necesario conversar sobre los hallazgos con nuestros colegas. ¡Como miembros de una Sociedad Nacional somos también miembros de la ESC! El Congreso ESC brinda la oportunidad de decidir lo que podrá influir en nuestra comprensión de las innovaciones y su práctica a nivel nacional. A los Editores de las Revistas de las Sociedades de Cardiología Nacionales se les brindarán las principales presentaciones que podrán ser traducidas y publicadas en las Revistas locales.
El Congreso ESC 2013 es el congreso internacional cardiovascular más grande y es por naturaleza verdaderamente internacional brindando oportunidades apasionantes e innovadoras para interactuar y discutir con colegas de todo el mundo. La elección es suya: ser parte de las fronteras de la cardiología y la práctica, o ser un observador!
What’s new for ESC Congress 2013?

The innovative Spotlight of the Congress is “The heart interacting with systemic organs”. For our patients, the interaction of cardiac conditions with other organs is fundamentally important to outcome, to safety and to clinical management. Related specialty areas have much to learn from each other and the ESC Congress 2013 will attract specialists from other organ systems to help understand disease mechanisms and improve the management of our patients.
A personalised and interactive congress
]]> At ESC Congress 2013 we can each develop a personalised curriculum, depending on specialty interests and training needs. This is a truly international meeting - the largest number of abstract submissions were from Japan! We have joint sessions with many societies around the world and 16 linked sessions and direct opportunities to interact with experts and thought leaders. For the first time this year we have “rapid fire” posters followed by interactive discussion around an electronic display featuring the key findings from each of the presented studies (Figures 1-3). Also for the first time, poster presentations will be stimulated by discussants who are experts in that field of investigation. Another innovation is “Meet the Legends in Cardiology”, where participants will be able to post questions in advance or during the session to individuals who have changed our understanding and helped determine the shape of cardiology in 2013.“Villages” of linked topics
There is huge and international enthusiasm for participation in the congress with a record number of submissions for scientific planned sessions (more than 400 were selected) and the second highest ever number of abstracts were submitted (10,490). To make the congress more manageable we have again arranged the congress into “villages” of related topics. Thus, a village may include presentations in one room on heart failure and in an adjacent room on heart rhythm disturbances. Through the village concept the congress becomes more manageable and interactive. Important new guidelines will be presented at the ESC Congress 2013 on arterial hypertension, cardiac pacing, diabetes, and stable coronary artery disease. Linked to these will be dedicated scientific sessions, case based Focus Sessions.
Why should someone come and participate in the congress?
Summaries of the Hotlines will appear online but to really understand the significance of the new research we need to discuss the findings with our colleagues. As National Society members we are all also members of the ESC! The ESC Congress provides the opportunity to decide what may influence understanding of innovations and practice at a national level. Editors of National Society Cardiovascular journals are provided with the Hotline presentations and the Hotline extracts can be translated and printed in local cardiovascular journals.
The ESC Congress 2013 is the largest cardiovascular international congress and its true international nature provides exciting and innovative opportunities to discuss and interact with colleagues from all around the world. You have the choice: be part of the frontiers in cardiology and practice, or be an observer!
