Since the old publications that address the progress in different areas of knowledge until our present days, two phenomena have always recurred and are told in a similar fashion each time, these are the information overload and underload; between them is where the modern world of academic journals finds itself. Trying to solve this dilemma involves indexes and methodologies of categorization, to which standards must adjust, providing some criteria of quality. Through this way a certain order is given.

Between the excess of articles and publications, and the lack of information that might derive from this, it is clear the relevance of having better and more precise descriptors and procedures in order to find that article that the researcher is looking for. Meanwhile and endless stream of processes is happening that authors and editors must consider and adjust. Complexity increases in an exponential way, and so does the need for specialized editorial teams.

Such scenario, with all the characteristics pointed above, is by itself complex, in addition to a nebula of “predatory or pirate” publications and indexes of similar nature. This is a reality that academic journals cannot ignore and to which there is an assertion of the importance of having editorial quality criteria, thoroughly assessments and a profound ethical sense from all the agents involved, in order for good editorial practices to be the common denominator.

In the current volume, we found ourselves with an increasing demand from authors to publish their works, but also, on behalf of the journal hosters, the quality requirements have also increased. Between them, the readers, editorial managers and the authors themselves, must adjust their ways and take care of the editorial practices, which happens to be a difficult and defying task.

Within this landscape, it is fundamental to thank on the one hand the authors that receive the heaviness of the new criteria, and who are generally requested to perform additional tasks to their original works, which they assume with a sense of nobility, since they understand the improvements that those changes imply, and other hand to the judges, without whom it would not be possible to pursue quality. To all of them and to our readers and collaborators, we wish you a peaceful Christmas and a happy New Year.
