In the journeys of an ethnographic investigation on childbirth activisms in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA), the reference of the activists to motherhood was recurrent. During the 2010s, in their modalities of public intervention, they mentioned phrases such as: “Maternity desire and decision, not mandate”. A slogan that referred to a form of politicization of the personal, specifically of the reproductive body. This politicization suggests possible links with feminist movements. However, some of them pointed out some tensions and disagreements around motherhood with feminist militants. Therefore, this article deals with the uncomfortable relationship that some childbirth activists, specifically the activists for humanized childbirth, referred to certain sectors of the feminist movement. Considering the field work carried out with the first group related to humanized childbirth in Buenos Aires, the general objective of this article is to investigate the meanings given to motherhood by them and their respective points of disagreement on the subject with feminists. As a specific objective, then, the ways of alliance to meet and develop common ground between the two activisms are explored. In particular, I am interested in addressing what term they found to agree, given that nowadays -year 2023- the majority of childbirth activists define themselves as feminists.
