BOYER, Véronique. LECTURE AT THE MONTEVIDEO FRENCH ALLIANCE, MAY 11, 2018. Rev. urug. Antropología y Etnografía [online]. 2018, vol.3, n.1, pp.109-117. ISSN 2393-7068.  https://doi.org/10.29112/ruae.v3.n1.7.

The afro descendant’s problem in Brazil was faced through different approaches.1) Cultural with a strong interest on the possession cults since late in the XIXth. Century.2) Territorial since the new 1988 Constitution that provides specific rights for slaves descendants.3) Political with the beginning of the quota system for access to Universities in the 2000’s.We searched the institutional and scholars’ positions on Africa-in-Brazil from the ethnographic studies done at the Amazonia, the region that’s usually associated more with indigenous rather than afro descendant populations.

Keywords : possessioncults; ethnic quotas; quilombolas; quilombos.
