Abstract

OTEGUI, María Noel Curbelo. FROM THE GUTS: STARTING A LYSERGIC TRIP. Rev. urug. Antropología y Etnografía [online]. 2018, vol.3, n.1, pp.67-77. ISSN 2393-7068.  https://doi.org/10.29112/ruae.v3.n1.4.

I’m going to deal with the origins of LSD (Lysergic Acid Diethylamide) as a psychoactive substance. It seems that chance played a role in the birth of a new product at chemist Albert Hoffmann’s lab, that’s still being used in several contexts under different forms. I follow the researcher’s tales about his “trips” on what later was called “acid” or “guts”, and then I present experiences on the beginning of the use of that product by some young people living at Montevideo. They were interviewed under a 2014-2015 research on synthetic drug use setups and their users. I ask myself if Bruno Latour’s concept of agency can be used to work on these issues, and I reflect over it for a deeper research in the future.

Keywords : LSD; contexts; uses; agencies. Synthetics drugs.
