Abstract

ROSANO ZANETTI, Sebastián  and  VIGNOLO, Washington. Dyslipidemia: from guidelines to clinical practice. Rev. Urug. Med. Int. [online]. 2017, vol.2, n.3, pp.24-50. ISSN 2393-6797.  https://doi.org/10.26445/rmu.2.3.2.

Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease is highly prevalent and is associated with high morbidity and mortality. Management of cardiovascular risk factors is a central strategy on its prevention and treatment. Reduction of atherogenic lipoprotein levels, in particular LDL-cholesterol, plays a key role in this regard. Several clinical practice guidelines have been developed with the purpose of establishing treatment strategies that achieve an effective control of these cardiovascular risk factors. This paper reviews the most relevant concepts presented in the most recent clinical practice guidelines for the treatment of dyslipidaemias, and seeks to address those situations in which there is greater controversy and lower level of evidence.

Keywords : dyslipidemia; atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
