Abstract

GAYE, Andrés. Cerebral Pseudotumor. Rev. Urug. Med. Int. [online]. 2016, vol.1, n.3, pp.52-61. ISSN 2393-6797.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Cerebral pseudotumor is an unfrecuent entity but its prevalence increases in young obese women. Its natural evolution can lead to irreversible blindness. In this article an exhaustive review on the subject is made. Methodology: Narrative review of the literature up to the present time. The search was done in Pubmed and the keywords were: pseudotumor cerebri, intracranial idiopathic hypertension and benign intracranial hypertension. Review: The most common clinical symptoms are headache and visual phenomena. Isolated bilateral papiledema usually lead to the diagnosis. Cerebral Imaging and CSF analysis exclude secondary causes. Most patients respond to hygienic-dietary-drug treatment, but sometimes surgery is needed to avoid blindness. A correct follow-up along with the ophthalmologist is essential to ensure the good outcome of patients.

Keywords : Pseudotumor Cerebri; Idiopatic Intracranial Hipertension; Obesity.
