MONDACA MIRANDA, Alexis. The Relationship Between Name Changes and the Right to Identity in Light of the Principle of Progressive Autonomy. Rev. Derecho [online]. 2025, n.31, e4468.  Epub 01-Dez-2025. ISSN 1510-3714.  https://doi.org/10.22235/rd31.4468.

This article examines petitions for name changes submitted on behalf of children and adolescents in cases where the biological father is voluntarily absent and has been effectively replaced, in terms of paternal functions, by the mother’s new partner. The cases under consideration require a nuanced reflection on the relationship between one’s name and the right to identity. The study also addresses the issue of legal representation of the child whose surname is being challenged, as well as the impact of evolving family dynamics-particularly the emergence of reconstituted families. Finally, the analysis connects name change petitions to the principle of progressive autonomy and the child's right to be heard
