Abstract

GONZALEZ MERLANO, José Gabriel. Fifty years of theological reflection in Uruguay (1974-2024). Humanidades (Montevideo. En línea) [online]. 2023, n.14, pp.115-146.  Epub Dec 01, 2023. ISSN 1510-5024.  https://doi.org/10.25185/14.6.

The present study goes over the half century of the history of the publications by the School of Theology of Uruguay and its predecessor, the Theological Institute of Uruguay. The uninterrupted presence of these periodic contributions manifests, at an academic level, the research and production work in the area of theological thinking in our country. The Church, which after the Second Vatican Council is open with renewed drive to the dialogue with the world, is in need of theological work as an essential help resource for the mission of evangelizing culture. Alongside this dialogue between faith and culture, and according to the various ecclesial, social and political circumstances, different research topics arise over time, addressed from the different specialties of theological knowledge and ecclesiastical sciences in general. The progress of the Theological Institute of Uruguay -which gradually grew to become the School of Theology- even with state recognition, contributed to give more importance to research and to be more demanding in its publications.
