Abstract

RUBIO, Lucas Domínguez. Francisco Romero: a personalist philosophy for the political discussions of the 20th century. Humanidades (Montevideo. En línea) [online]. 2021, n.10, pp.221-250.  Epub Dec 01, 2021. ISSN 1510-5024.  https://doi.org/10.25185/10.9.

This article analyzes the political adhesions of the Argentine philosopher Francisco Romero (1891-1962) in relation with his theoretical developments. The article covers the period that went from his pretensions of achieving a «normalized» and depoliticized philosophy to combating the organizational and nationalist philosophical positions that surfaced in Argentina in the 1930s. According to our hypothesis, it was within this framework that Francisco Romero established in Argentina a personalist gnoseology linked to various international anti-communist platforms that brought a notable repercussion to his work at the regional level. In fact, thanks to them, he established contacts with philosophers from Peru, Mexico, the United States and Cuba. With the purpose of documenting this process, from the methods of analysis of intellectual history, this article goes through his texts, his networks of contacts and the periodical publications he promoted.

Keywords : Francisco Romero (1891-1962); Philosophy in Argentina; Argentine and Latin American Thought; Argentine Intellectual History; Congress for Cultural Freedom (ccf); Anti-peronism; Anti-communism.
