Abstract

CUEVAS BADALLO, Ana. A Naturalistic view of the ontology of technical entities. Humanidades (Montevideo. En línea) [online]. 2021, n.10, pp.145-172.  Epub Dec 01, 2021. ISSN 1510-5024.  https://doi.org/10.25185/10.6.

This article suggests a review of the notion of technical artifact in light of a naturalistic understanding in a broad sense. I analyze whether the characterizations on technical artifacts proposed so far from the philosophy of technology can be extended to also include the technical creations of other organisms. This will be done taking into account the theories of «niche construction» and of «organisms as ecosystem engineers». This allows us to understand human technical creations within what human beings do naturally and in gradual continuity with what other species do.

Keywords : technical artifacts; naturalism; niche construction; artificial vs. natural..
