Abstract

This article examines the literary and visual representations of the War of the Pacific (1879-1884) in Chilean cultural magazines published between 1898 and 1912. The work addresses the transformations of the journalistic world in the period and the modernization of cultural magazines, associated with a new generation of intellectuals and artists. From the perspective of the cultural history of the war, the representations of the war past and its uses by Chilean nationalism are analyzed in the contents of cultural magazines through biographies, short stories, chronicles, testimonies, poems, and illustrations.
