The area of Information Science recommends and incorporates the training of people to facilitate access and intelligent, ethical and legal use of information to build knowledge and promote assertive intervention in social reality. Amidst the scenario of transformations and changes, there is a need for a differential that contributes to the process of evaluation and critical use of information in environments and in different supports - Information Literacy (IL), Media Literay and Digital Literacy. The purpose of this article is to present a briefing on these competencies with theoretical reflections from origins to trends in spaces: economic, educational and cultural. It seeks to lead to understanding in this regard and its interdisciplinary interrelationship with themes of importance for contemporaneity. This is a contribution of a theoretical nature with references built through a selective bibliographical review on these themes. The conclusions present some of the main trends involving these competencies and demonstrate that theoretical and practical studies with this focus are still expanding, especially with regard to the different spaces for their promotion and the scope of the listed priorities. : people, information, knowledge, technologies, education, citizenship, lifelong learning and human and social development.
