Abstract

REPISO, Rafael; SIDORENKO, Pavel  and  MCGOWAN, Nadia. Virtual Reality in Libraries: strategies for inclusion of an emerging technology. Infor [online]. 2022, vol.27, n.2, pp.30-47.  Epub Dec 01, 2022. ISSN 2301-1378.  https://doi.org/10.35643/info.27.2.12.

Virtual Reality is an emerging technology that is gaining relevance in popular culture. Its contents allow for greater involvement between viewers and media due to its immersive capabilities. The possibilities offered by its use justify the inclusion of this technology in the collections offered by libraries. In this article, we justify its adoption, present strategies for its use and future lines of work.

In order for libraries to lead the adoption of Virtual Reality, the development of specific literacy, Virtual Reality equipment lending and the creation of specialized collections are proposed. Existing resources for the development of each of these three pillars necessary to implement Virtual Reality in libraries are presented along with the procedures that could be adopted for its proper use and operation.
