GUZZO, Vanessa y BRIOZZO, Leonel. Pregnancy as a Motivating Factor for Exercise. Anfamed [online]. 2025, vol.12, n.2, e502. Epub 01-Dic-2025. ISSN 2301-1254. https://doi.org/10.25184/anfamed2025v12n2a7.
Introduction:
Despite the benefits of physical activity during pregnancy, only 33% of pregnant women engage in gestational exercise. Our objective is to determine whether physical activity prior to pregnancy is related to exercise during gestation.
Methodology:
A descriptive, observational, cross-sectional study was conducted with a group of pregnant women who participated in an exercise program during pregnancy. Data on their physical activity prior to pregnancy were collected using the PARmed-X questionnaire.
Results:
Of the total number of women who exercised during pregnancy, 52.6% (n=10) had no prior history of physical activity before gestation. The association analysis for the relationship between prior exercise and physical activity during pregnancy yielded a value p = 0.102, without reaching statistical significance.
Conclusions:
No significant association was found between pre-pregnancy exercise and physical activity during gestation. However, a noteworthy finding is that many women who had not previously exercised began doing so during pregnancy after receiving proper information and understanding its benefits. This highlights the crucial role of education and access to structured programs in promoting physical activity during pregnancy. It is essential to develop public policies that ensure universal, free, and equitable access to exercise programs for pregnant women.
