Resumen

LORENZO, Jesús Sánchez. Multiculturalism and self-determination in the field of human rights. Rev. Fac. Der. [online]. 2017, n.43, pp.235-276. ISSN 0797-8316.  https://doi.org/10.22187/rfd2017n2a8.

Based on the different equality of human beings (Multiculturalism) we move along the path of liberalism, guided by globalization in order to achieve the maximum expression of human rights, an innate component of individuals as part of a particular group. Such globalization as a guide should make human beings more interdependent. However it may provoke (and seems to be provoking) sectorization (the term used is ghettoization) in the Western democratic society and humanity in general for the defense of common interests to these groups. And the globalization phenomenon itself seems to ignore this, since it has no real interest in human beings and their individual and group rights. The grouping of individuals around the same interests leads to the idea of the democratic defense of such interests. This democratic defense is carried out by the exaltation of nationalist ideals that manage to get some autonomy and/or independence from the overwhelming sense of majority, most of the time ignoring the existence of minorities with their own human rights. This can be accomplished by a policy federation of both groups. In the final part, there is a discussion if whether secession is the result of the success of the defense of human rights of minorities.

Palabras clave : self-determination; communitarianism; human rights; federalism; globalization; liberalism; multiculturalism; nationalism; secessionism.
