RODRIGUEZ ESCARON, Mariángel  e  JARDIM, Vanda María Da Rosa. Burnout syndrome in nursing, associated factors: a systematic review. Revista urug. enferm. (En línea) [online]. 2026, vol.21, n.1, e402.  Epub 01-Dez-2026. ISSN 2301-0371.  https://doi.org/10.33517/rue2026v21n1a3.

Burnout Syndrome is an occupational disease, defined by the World Health Organization as the result of chronic stress in the workplace, which has not been successfully managed. Among health professionals, nursing is one of the most studied and vulnerable groups to suffer from it. The objective of this study is to know the prevalence of Burnout Syndrome in Nursing and its relationship with associated factors through a systematic literature review. For the search of articles, studies published between the years 2015 to 2020, in Spanish, Portuguese and English language were defined as inclusion criteria. The search was conducted in LILACS, PubMed and SciELO, focusing on quantitative studies based on the assessment instrument on the prevalence of Burnout Syndrome in Nursing, Maslash Burnout Inventory, using the connectors “AND” and “OR”. For the combinations of descriptors, a Checklist PRISMA flowchart was used to identify and select the studies. In the 16 selected studies it was found that Burnout prevalence levels ranged from 15 to 68%. In relation to sociodemographic and occupational variables, nurses with greater age, more seniority and multiple jobs had higher levels of Burnout, while those with higher self-esteem, job satisfaction, better remuneration and a high level of support from the organization had low levels of Burnout. As final conclusions of the studies analyzed, we can see that the prevalence of Burnout Syndrome in Nursing shows heterogeneous levels and that a significant association was found between the syndrome and sociodemographic and occupational factors.
