Aim
. Examined psychophysiological factors that were not considered risk factors by the World Health Organization in non-communicable diseases. These psychophysiological factors were studied from a neuroendocrinological perspective in patients with endocrine and metabolic disorders. The contributions of psychoneuroimmunology on the individual as a mind-body-environment-emotions unit were considered.
Methods
: Descriptive research to determine the psychophysiological states caused by multidimensional stressors in patients treated at the Academic Unit of Endocrinology and Metabolism of the Hospital de Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of the Oriental Republic of Uruguaybetween September and November 2021. The research instrument used was a questionnaire designed by the researcher with a Likert scale measurement.
Results
: A sample of 109 adult participants was obtained: 81 women and 28 men. The results showed multidimensional alterations in sleep, diet, lack of relaxation techniques and exercise, cognitive schemas, psychoemotional factors in the childhood in the workplace, family and physical environment, demotivation and dissatisfaction with the meaning or purpose of life, and lack of recreational activities.
Conclusions
: Taking these results into account will help prevent non-communicable diseases, improve quality of life and well-being, and reduce associated complications.
