NEVES DA SILVA, Bruno; MARINHO FERNANDES, Renata; BRANDAO DE CARVALHO LIRA, Ana Luisa e GALVAO PINTO, Erika Simone. Ineffective community coping in rural contexts: phenomenological contributions of schützian reasons for nursing clinical reasoning. Revista urug. enferm. (En línea) [online]. 2025, vol.20, n.1, e511. Epub 01-Dez-2025. ISSN 2301-0371. https://doi.org/10.33517/rue2025v20n1a12.
Objective:
To reflect on the nursing diagnosis Ineffective Community Coping in rural settings, based on the philosophical framework of the reasons for and reasons why.
Method:
A reflective analysis grounded in Alfred Schütz’s social phenomenology, with emphasis on the constructs of reasons for and reasons why, which understand action as the result of subjective and intersubjective experience. Based on the biographical situation and cultural references of rural populations, the study aimed to understand how practices, beliefs, and behavioral patterns influence health care adherence and the configuration of the nursing diagnosis under analysis.
Results:
The reasons why reveal the historicity and prior experiences that shape attitudes and decisions, while the reasons for point toward future intentions and expectations. In the daily lives of rural families, health is highly valued as a functional condition, resulting in delayed care-seeking and limited investment in preventive actions. Furthermore, deep-rooted cultural practices, often diverging from biomedical knowledge, demand cultural competence from nurses and care strategies based on dialogue, active listening, and receptiveness. The analysis of schützian motives proves to be a powerful tool to enhance the Nursing Process and to build context-sensitive interventions.
Final Considerations:
Social phenomenology provides important subsidies to expand the understanding of subjective determinants of health care, contributing to more humanized and contextualized practices in rural settings, while also fostering thenurse’s clinical and critical reasoning.
