HUSSEIN ARNOUS, Amir; ZAMPROGNO RODRIGUES, Kamila; DA SILVA LISBOA FERREIRA, Natália  e  DA SILVA BAPTISTA ARPINI, Luana. Evaluation of diabetic foot by nursing professional in primary health care. Revista urug. enferm. (En línea) [online]. 2025, vol.20, n.1, e405.  Epub 01-Dez-2025. ISSN 2301-0371.  https://doi.org/10.33517/rue2025v20n1a13.

Introduction:

Primary Health Care is the most appropriate setting for the follow-up of individuals with diabetes.

Objective

: To evaluate whether the knowledge of Primary Health Care nurses is sufficient to identify diabetic foot and whether the prevention of complications is adequately addressed.

Methods:

A systematic review was conducted to answer the question: “What knowledge do Primary Health Care nurses have regarding the assessment of diabetic foot?” and to propose measures for health practice.

Results:

The literature describes different methods, populations, and instruments for diabetic foot assessment; however, overall, the findings converge on the unfortunate conclusion that nurses generally lack the minimum knowledge required for the assessment and guidance of foot care in people with diabetes.

Conclusions:

Educational actions are required both within and beyond health units, targeting professionals and patients alike, to enable preventive measures and effective interventions for individuals with diabetes.
